  • Select Specialty Hospital-Durham (SSH-Durham) is a 30-bed LTAC (Long Term Acute Care) Hospital. Each patient this hospital cares for are referred from area hospitals for an additional 2-4 weeks of continued inpatient acute care with the addition of aggressive rehabilitation services.
  • SSH-Durham prides itself on the treatment of acute illnesses, such as respiratory failure and subsequent ventilator weaning (roughly 50% of patient volume), treatment of severe wounds, neuro/neuro-trauma patients, cardiac failure/disease and a variety of other complex medical conditions.
  • SSH-Durham is known as a Hospital within a Hospital, located on the sixth floor of Durham Regional Hospital, a Duke University Health System Hospital. SSH-Durham is separate from but a strategic partner with Duke University Health System.Over 60% of SSH-Durham's patients come from Duke Health System hospitals.
  • Select Specialty Hospital is managed as a separate entity by Pennsylvania-based Select Medical Corporation. The Durham facility is independent with its own registration process, pharmacy and pharmacists, therapy staff and gym, nutrition program and medical staff.

Hospitalist Program Profile

  • The Hospitalist Team of three full time physicians will be on site 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Each full time hospitalist will provide up to 168 to 192 hours of clinical professional medical services per month consisting of 12-hour shifts. Schedule will be 7 on 7 off. Night call coverage is provided on a rotating basis.
  • The Hospitalist will complete daily patient rounds with the interdisciplinary team, provide support for any daily care needs of the patients, work with the interdisciplinary team to establish and meet goals as they relate to the patient's care plan, hold family conferences and facilitate patient admission/discharges in addition to the other duties that an acute care hospital will require of its attending physicians.
