Berger Hospital System Hospitalist Program
-
A hospitalist program was started at Berger Hospital in 2007. Full time nocturnists employed by Pickaway Health Services, staff the Hospital 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., seven days a week. Internists employed by Pickaway Health Services serve as the hospitalists during the daytime hours, seven days a week.
-
In 2008, Berger negotiated an agreement with Hospitalists Management Group (HMG) to recruit and staff its hospitalist program on a consistent, full time basis. It is anticipated that full implementation of HMG's hospitalist program at Berger Hospital will be completed by July 1, 2009.
-
The Hospitalist team will provide on-site service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Twelve hour shifts are scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
-
The Hospitalist team accepts inpatient referrals from local primary care physicians and Emergency Department unassigned patients; co-manages surgical and acute inpatient rehabilitation patients; and provides service response for codes, consultations, inpatient episodic medical care and ICU procedures.
Circleville, Ohio Community
-
Pickaway County has a population of 54,000. Berger Health System's service area is approximately 65,000. Twenty five percent of Berger's inpatient admissions come from six contiguous counties. Circleville/Pickaway County shares the benefit of being part of the Columbus metropolitan area (population one million), the 15th largest SMSA in the United States. Although not totally recession-proof, central Ohio benefits from a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, banking, insurance, research (including Battelle, OSU), education and government (Columbus is the state capital).
-
Circleville and Berger Hospital are located 25 miles south of downtown Columbus via a freeway. Pickaway County is rapidly evolving into a suburb. As a result, people who work at Berger Health System have the luxury of residing in either a quieter suburban environment like Circleville, or a progressive urban environment in Columbus.
Easy access is afforded to a number of outdoor amenities including lakes, rivers, and excellent park systems. The nationally recognized interactive science center (COSI) and the Columbus Zoo are family favorites that draw many visitors each year. Sports fans enjoy Ohio State University and professional athletics locally such as hockey, soccer and lacrosse. Circleville, Ohio residents also enjoy the ease of access to the amenities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.
