Unlike most Hospitalist companies, HMG is a physician owned and managed equity model organization. Each practice site is separately incorporated and our physicians participate in the HMG Incentive Bonus Program based on the operating results of their practice. It runs as its own business with the support of the HMG Operations Team who facilitate the seamless support of a full-service billing company, human resources, physician recruitment, legal services/risk management, credentialing, third-party contracting, accounting, marketing and network development, information services and more. HMG has also implemented the use of hand-held wireless technology, MediMobile, that allows for instantaneous charge entry, access to patient medical record systems, and the ability to communicate with both primary care and consulting physicians on each patient's case.

Stephen L. Houff, MD, was at the forefront of the hospitalist program movement when, as a solo inpatient practitioner in 1993, he implemented a single-site hospitalist program at The Ohio State University Hospitals East. That program led to the development of Hospitalists Management Group (HMG) a nationwide turnkey provider of hospitalist services headquartered in Canton, Ohio. For more than a decade, HMG's mission has been to deliver increased health care value to patients, hospitalist and payers through clinical excellence and innovation.
